OUR STORY
We’ve been on campus since 2013, and we’ve produced more than 30 Tide Talks events that have sparked thought and discussion among peers. We were founded by a passionate and dedicated group of students who recognized and acted upon the value of sharing student triumphs.
Tide Talks mission as a creative, engaging and respected interface for students to express their authentic person narratives, will:
- Galvanize the often disjointed breadth of student experience by highlighting in-depth specific student success stories.
- Provide a prestigious, unbiased platform for innovative ideas that spark dialogues across campus.
- Celebrate and uplift the reputation of the University of Alabama as a center of fresh perspectives worthy of distribution and discussion.
Selected speakers for Tide Talks tell their story in front of a live audience and in front of the camera. Speakers are selected 5-6 weeks prior to an event and work with our speaker development team to articulate their revolutionary idea and prepare to deliver it. Each Tide Talks event features four speakers that reflect a wide array of student interests and perspectives. Tide Talks welcomes any and all views. Each event strives to find unheard perspectives from the UA community.
Beyond giving a Tide Talk, we greatly value the opportunity for university community members to come and listen to their peers. We believe that peer to peer listening engagements foster greater student interaction. Any Tide Talks audience member can expect to walk away from an event with a diversified understanding of passions shared with the student community.
Our events are inspired by TED Talks, and earlier this year, we had our first TED sponsored event: TEDxUniversityofAlabama. This event featured 5 speakers both students and faculty from the university community and beyond into greater Tuscaloosa and Alabama. The videos are on the official TEDx website and we plan to execute TEDxUniversityofAlabama events annually.
